　　福州四中位于闽江三县洲大桥北侧的大庙山上，创建于清光绪二十二年(1906年)，前身为“福州商立学堂”。1952年经福州市人民政府批准，私立福商中学收归公办，改名为“福州市第四中学”。1954年经福州市文教局批准，私立四端中学、私立榕工初级中学以及开智中学的高中部并入本校，定名为“福建省福州第四中学”至今。2002年4月，被福建省教育厅确定为省一级达标学校。
　　学校原占地面积近18000平方米，建筑面积近17000平方米，现有绿化面积3663平方米。2006年学校新增教育用地十九亩，学校面积扩大近一倍。现有教职工165人，有专任教师150人，其中特级教师、高级教师65人，一级教师42人，省中小学中青年学科带头人和市名学科带头人4人、市级骨干教师3人，省市优秀青年教师37名。学校现有22位硕士生，大学本科毕业124人。近年来，学校有2人次被授予“全国优秀教师”和“全国模范教师”称号，2人次被授予“省优秀中小学校长”、“省师德标兵”称号，5人次获“市十大杰出女工、市十佳校长、市十佳教师和市十佳班主任”称号，其它荣获省市级各类先进100多人。
　　我校于1985年在福州市率先开展“学校、社会、家庭”三结合教育。23年来“三结合”教育网络挥动着“隐形的翅膀”，发挥“厚德载物”的作用。如学校一年一度毕业典礼和教学开放周就是“三结合”教育工作的浓缩。毕业生典礼邀请学生家长、社区代表和全体师生参加，唱响“吉祥三宝”等等，这些为推动我校德育工作上一个台阶发挥了巨大的作用。
　　1996年学校开办了鸿志班与美术特色班，两个特色班出色的教育教学质量享誉八闽。近两年来，学校积极组织学生参加各学科的兴趣小组活动，有300多人次获得各级各类学科竞赛奖励，其中有30多人次获全国和省级大奖。名师工作室胡宁老师指导学生多次参加全国物理奥赛，有65人次获得全国及省市一至三等奖。“鸿志精神、美术见长、活动创新、奥赛夺金”的办学特色凸显，高考本科上线率稳步提升，学校办学效益连续多年名列同类校前茅。2006、2007年高考，学校办学效益连续两年获得市区八所一级达标校第一名。学校教学质量的稳步提升，受到了上级领导和社会各界的广泛赞誉。
　　2006--2008学年，学校扬文明之帆，驭和谐之舟，先后被光荣地评为“省第九届文明学校”、“省绿色学校”、“省师德建设先进集体”、“省家庭教育先进集体”、“省女职工标兵岗”、和“省教育系统关心下一代工作先进集体”和“市职工职业道德标兵单位”等。学校以高分通过了省现代技术教育实验校、高中新课改市级样本校中期督导评估、实施体育工作评估督查等。学校图书馆被确认为省中学示范图书馆。

A Brief Introduction

The Fourth Middle School of Fuzhou, located on scenic Hill Damiao on the Min River, is ranked as a first-grade provincial key middle school, enjoying over a hundred years of splendid history. Teaching centered and scientific research guiding, the school has fruitfully developed its unique school-running features as the advanced campus culture, like the spirits of constant height-scaling and great ambition and deep artistic atmosphere among the teachers and students, which has turned the school into a very famous one with strict but quick and diligent but creative styles in students’ studying, teachers’ teaching and with a harmonious campus.
In recent years, the school has highly been thought of for its great achievements in traditional “the Three-unity”(unity of school, home and society), “Hongzhiban (Classes of students from poor families but with great ambition)”, painting classes and contests in physics. Since 2000, the school has several times held safe leads in school-running effectiveness among the first grade provincial key middle schools in Fuzhou. In 2006’s college entrance examination, the school took the fourth in Fuzhou in the number of the students gaining marks over 600, 4 over 650, 24 over 600 (excluding 4 recommended to the top colleges in China). 100% of the students of “Hongzhiban” and the painting class all got the marks as high as over the line for regular (four years) colleges. In the municipal appraisal, the school took the first place in school-running effectiveness and rising-rate of over-the-line.
In the past ten years, the school has won more than one hundred honors and awards, including “National Advanced School in CDT Education”, “Fujian Provincial Civilized School”, “Fujian Provincial Advanced School in Quality Education”, “Experimental School of Outside-school Practice and Teachers Training (Educational Ministry’s Key Research Topic for the Tenth Five-year Plan of National Education Science)”, “Fujian Provincial Experimental School for Modern Education Technology”, etc.
